Aloha, this is Haunani Kane from the Hōkūleʻa crew. After nearly a week out at sea, we finally made our way up north to Townsville. We are here at the ReefHQ, which is the education center of the Great Barrier Reef. We are super excited to learn more about the reef, the species that live on the reef, as well as the people who depend on it. For myself as a marine geologist, it has always been a dream of mine to dive here in the Great Barrier Reef, and now getting to do that with our aunties, uncles, and our mentors on waʻa, for many of us it is a dream come true. For the next couple of days, we have a community day planned at ReefHQ where we will interact with the community of Townsville, and share with them about we are doing on the waʻa to mālama honua as well as to learn from the people here and what they do to care for their homes as well. So we are excited to get out on the reef, take the voyage underwater and learn more from the people here in Australia. So continue to follow us at Hokulea.com. Aloha!
