Here we are on our 5th day out of Cape Town travelling up the coast of the continent of Africa.

Day 4 (December 27) was a good sailing day for both Hōkūleʻa and Gershon II. We are averaging about 7 knots on 15-20 mph SSE winds and small seas of 4 feet, with clear skies all day. It was a great day to fine-tune our steering skills.

Legendary voyaging canoe Hokulea, which is now almost exactly halfway around the world from the starting point of Honolulu, Hawaii, set sail today for Brazil, South America's largest country both geographically and in terms of its population.

While in Cape Town, crewmembers make final preparations for the 4,200 mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean - the longest of the Worldwide Voyage.
