Aloha kākou, here we are tied up in Coffs harbor, Australia after 12 days of going across the Tasman sea from Aotearoa to here. We came here as originally planned, but we’re planing on spending a few extra days here and waiting for this big approaching weather coming our way. Safety is our number one priority and going out into Sydney at this time would be a foolish mistake. We want to let the weather pass and get to Sydney as safe as possible and still allow us to make some time in Sydney to spend time with the community, do our outreach, do our science, and engage with the communities that are down there. Being here at Coffs allows us time to clean our canoe, clean ourselves – we all got to take a fresh water shower last night, wash our clothes in fresh water, sleep in a bed in a stable area. And it allows us time to make sure everything is good on our waʻa, clean everything up and allow us to arrive into Sydney with our canoe looking all brand new, fixed, shiny, and in top shape. We plan to get to Sydney maybe a few days after originally planned, but that’s okay. Again, safety is the number one priority and waiting out this weather is how we will stay safe for the crew and our waʻa. Mahalo for following us on our journey and we’ll check in with you guys later on. A hui hou.
