Why is my membership important?

PVS Members have been the mainstay of support to PVS for four decades. Our contributing members today are allowing us to voyage beyond the boundaries of Polynesia to inspire a global movement to mālama honua, care for our island earth. This important legacy can only be realized with your collective support and we thank you for your commitment.

What are the benefits of being a contributing member?

New and returning members receive a 20% discount to the PVS Store – your discount code will be emailed to you after membership-signup. U.S. contributors also qualify for gifts as listed – due to costly shipping, we ship only to U.S. addresses.

Are recurring givers eligible for member gifts? 

Recurring givers are absolutely eligible for member gifts! As your giving total accrues through the year, we will send you member-gifts when your account reaches various gift thresholds (e.g. if you give $10/mo. starting in Jan, your balance will reach $100 in Oct and you’ll qualify for a shirt).

When will my member gifts arrive?

Because we rely on volunteers to distribute member-gifts, shipments can take up to 30 days or more to mail.  Gifts will mail to recurring givers when their contributions amounts have reached various gift thresholds.

Why is monthly giving important to PVS?

By choosing to give through a recurring contribution, you are helping to sustain PVS for decades to come. Setting up a recurring gift is secure, easy and convenient. Recurring gifts reduce administration costs and allows for better forecasting and planning. Whether it’s to pay for classroom handouts or to upgrade safety equipment for crewmembers, your member contribution can be used where it’s most effective.

How do I manage my recurring contribution?

Managing your monthly gift is as easy as checking email. After you’ve completed your contribution, you’ll receive an email with simple instructions allowing you to quickly and easily raise, lower or cancel your monthly contribution at any time.

When I make a contribution, who will have access to my credit card information?

When you make a contribution to PVS, your credit card information is encrypted and sent to our payment processor, WePay. WePay is a leader in secure payment processing, and they are the only ones who will have access to your credit card information. PVS has absolutely no access to this information although we can cancel and refund payments upon request.

Will 100% of my contribution be received by PVS?

There are service fees associated with all online contributions made to PVS. Fortunately, these are industry-low fees ranging from 1-5% and contributors are given the option to cover this nominal cost allowing PVS to retain 100% of your intended gift.

Can I make additional contributions?

While contributing members are asked to give at least once per year to keep membership current, we urge interested contributors to give monthly recurring contributions, which are most beneficial to PVS. Contributors can also choose to extend the reach of the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage by gifting membership or dedicating a contribution in memory of a loved one.

Is this donation tax deductible?

The Polynesian Voyaging Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Your contribution is fully tax deductible as permitted by law since no goods or services were provided in consideration of your donation. Please retain this letter as a record of your contribution for tax purposes. The Polynesian Voyaging Societyʻs IRS identification number is #23-7302232.
