A pilot-scale Hydroponic system will be installed and utilized for fresh vegetable production aboard Hikianalia. Hydroponics is the process of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water without the use of soil. A replicate of the Hydroponics system used on Hikianalia will be provided for Miki Tomita’s class at the University Lab school so that students may learn about sustainable food technologies.
