“Kilo lani” means stargazer, astronomer; someone who explores the heavens and can read the future by observing the stars. The founding fathers of the Polynesian Voyaging Society were all “kilo lani” – heroic explorers of the past and inspired dreamers of the future.

The same can be said of this year’s remarkable honorees: Explore.org & Annenberg Foundation, James & Abigail Campbell Family Foundation, and Harold K.L. Castle Foundation. These charitable organizations share a profound history of community service and a bold commitment to positive social change. This year’s gala event pays tribute to these extraordinary leaders, and celebrates the “stargazer” in us all.
