Hōkūleʻa crewmember Russell Amimoto is with us today as crewmembers site Fatu Hiva in the Marquesas Islands. He describes a long night of changing conditions, variable winds, squalls and heavy seas keeping crewmembers active in changing sails and responding to conditions.
Later in the day, as crewmembers scanned the horizon for signs of land, the island of Fatu Hiva appeared beneath the clouds. Elated crewmembers plan to continue past the island on to the islands Ua Po and Nuku Hiva, also in the Marquesas.
