Hōkūleʻa Update | May 9, 2015
English
Aloha ahiahi kākou, eia nō au ʻo Kaleo Manuiwa Wong onboard Hōkūleʻa as we continue our travel from Aotearoa across the Tasman sea to Nūhōlani to Australia. We left Lord Howe yesterday evening as we continued our westward track. Because the winds are not too favorable right now, they’re light coming out of the wrong direction for us to sail, we decided to hook up our sail to the Gershon as we hear of a large storm heading our direction. We’re expecting it to be 30-35 knot winds with gusts up to 40 or 45. So we really don’t want to be out here when that weather hits us. We’re traveling across West to the shores of Australia about 5 knots. We got about a day and a half more of sailing and we expect to be outside the Australia coast. We’ll get back to you guys tomorrow about our current position and the inclement weather approaching us as it comes. Mahalo for continuing to follow us. You can follow us at www.hokulea.com and follow along our voyages of Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia on our mālama honua voyage. Mahalo. Aloha.
