Honoring Kealoha Hoe

PVS is greatly saddened by the passing of Kealoha Hoe, a 20-year deep sea voyaging veteran who began sailing with PVS on the Rapa Nui Voyage of 1999. While on Hōkūleʻa, he was a valued leader and watch captain who provided the crucial skills to keep our voyages safe and to help us reach our mission. He provided the inspiration and mana for carrying Hōkūleʻa’s values and its promise to protect what he loved: Hawaiian culture, oceans, land and the education of our keiki.

He will be deeply missed, but he will always be aboard with us. Everyone in the voyaging ʻohana will ensure that the memory of his vital role as a greatly respected and valued crew member will be a shining light for all the future voyages to come. As we continue to sail, his story will always be with us to move Hōkūleʻa into the future that our world and our children deserve.

On behalf of the voyaging family throughout the Pacific, we send our love and aloha to Kealoha and his extraordinary family.
