Lāna‘i-
It is the early evening of Sunday, July 7th. The Lāna`i community has assembled to pay tribute to the Hōkūle`a, her sister Wa'a Hikianalia, and the dedicated voyagers vested with the solemn tasks of mālama the wa`a and practicing the philosophy of A`o by learning how other cultures Mālama Honua while sharing their own mana`o of how Hawai'i cares for this island Earth.
In the past four short days Lānaʻi has reacquainted itself with the Hōkūle`a and welcomed her sister wa`a Hikianalia along with their exceptional crews. Tomorrow Hōkūle`a will set sail for Moloka'i, and Lāna'i will have to wait another four years before Hōkūle`a will drop anchor in our waters again. Hōkūle`a and her crews may not be with us physically, but our mana have been shared and our intentions are aligned. Together we will act as one to Mālama Honua.
