Navigation Update | October 31, 2014

Aloha mai kākou! Thank you for following us on our voyage as we’re traveling down from Tongtatapu to Rangitahua and onto Aotearoa. We are thinking we are close to 400 miles along our course, more about 360 miles going off of our speed and direction of travel. We’re going to be verifying that tonight with stars that we’ll be measuring. We’re looking at Kauluakoko (Betelgeuse) and ʻAʻa (Sirius) as they should be rising together and stay together as they travel up into the sky. Last night, when we were looking at them, they were close. But tonight should be the night that they are closer and letting us know our position in the ocean is about 27 degrees south. We’re expecting to see Rangitahua maybe tomorrow evening or the day after in the morning. We’ll see how we travel along the ocean. Right now you can see the ocean is pretty calm.
