The Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage is making its way to the East Coast of the United States with plans to reach New York City in July, 2016. Residents and supporters in New York, however, are already laying the groundwork for this historic arrival.

The non-profit Hālāwai, is aiding the Polynesian Voyaging Society with planning in New York, and is hosting an number of local events this May. Hālāwai is a diverse group of individuals in the New York area committed to building and supporting a community of people who share a common background or interest in the heritage, culture, history and future of the people of Hawaiʻi and other Pacific Islands.
