In honor of World Oceans Day, the Polynesian Voyaging Society invites you to attend a ceremonial presentation of declarations

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.41.23 AMNavigating only by the stars and other natural elements, legendary Polynesian voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa will arrive at the United Nations on World Oceans Day for the first time in history. After sailing over 26,000 nautical miles across the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Ocean since departing Hawaiʻi in 2014, master navigator Nainoa Thompson will present United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with ocean protection declarations that the Hōkūleʻa voyagers have collected during this worldwide journey. This Hawaiian ceremony will include special remarks; chants of cleansing, greeting and arrival; traditional dance; serving of ‘Awa and a closing song of unity – Hawaiʻi Aloha.
