Aloha! This is Kekaimalu Lee here on our Hokianga learning journey here in beautiful Aotearoa. We are here at Tane Mahuta tree, one of the oldest and largest kauri trees. He is 2,000 years old, and it is a real privilege to be here to witness the beauty of this tree. As a wood carver and someone who sails on the canoes, it is a real privilege to see this large tree that potentially could have been made into a canoe back in ka wā kahiko (ancient times). It is awesome to look at and just to be here and witness this. Please tell us how you mālama honua (care for) your area, and please continue to follow us at Hokulea.com. Mahalo!
