The voyaging canoes Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia arrived in Whangarei, Aotearoa (New Zealand) at approximately 3:00pm on November 21, 2014 (Hawai‘i Standard Time). The canoes departed from Waitangi, where the vessels and crew were hosted by the local Maori community celebrating Hōkūleʻa’s first return to Aotearoa in 29 years.

The canoes will now spend several days in Whangarei conducting community and educational outreach to further the Worldwide Voyage’s mission of Mālama Honua – Caring for our Island Earth.
