I am filled with awe of dazzling atolls, the vast expanse of deep blue, the navigator silhouette against the heavens, the spirit of dance and hā, strength, perseverance, courage, bumps, bruises, blood and sweat, muscles aching, hearts yearning.
For myself, it has been a great pleasure meeting old friends as we sailed across the central Pacific and to introduce new crew members to the many island communities we visited.
Flying fish skim the surface. Starlight and moonlight are reflected in their beings. Emitting light, with their heads down, they write in their notebooks the mysteries of wayfinding facts and figures to get us to our destination.
Education is core to the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage. We are all aware of the seemingly daunting challenges facing us, and our children are key to providing the 21st Century skills of innovation, collaboration and problem solving.
There's something to be said about a group of people from different backgrounds and ages, cultures and beliefs who are voyaging to a destination together.
The world has not gotten any smaller, but its problems are growing. In realizing that we cannot shrink these global problems we must rise to their scale to create global solutions.
