Crewmember Julie Rogers takes us on a tour in Bali to a place that is equal parts bamboo jungle, environmental school, and global model of sustainability.
Hōkūleʻa sailed into the iconic Sydney Harbor and was welcomed to the country by the traditional owners of these lands. Crewmembers were eager to learn more about these people and spent some time with the Tribal Warrior group in Redfern.
"ʻFind your roots that ground you down to Mother Earth, cause nobody can take that away from you.ʻ It was truly a special day and I am honored to have been guided by the Quandamooka elders through their lands."
"In moments like these we realize most strongly our place in the natural world. To weave ourselves back into the tapestry of our living world is the pahuhope, the ultimate ending goal."
With the art of wayfinding as the guide and the waʻa kaulua as their platform, the crews of Hōkūle’a and Hikianalia are inspiring new educational strategies in communities around the world.
