From the ashes of shuttered Monterey canneries rose a new ethos, and a new way of looking at our ocean resources, which is anchored by the Monterey Bay Aquarium

Hōkūleʻa visited Pitcairn Islands Marine Reserve, in which the Promise to Pae ʻĀina member Liquid Robotics deployed wave gliders for marine protection.

Completely remote from the continent, creatures on these islands developed unique characteristics to survive.

"It was completely mind blowing to see some of the first ancestors of the reefs we have back home in Hawaiʻi and encouraging to know that despite all of the changes the world has gone through, important remnants of the past continue to persist through time."
