Winds started off light and from an unfavorable direction this morning, Throughout the day we have gained ground more towards our intended course as the winds clocked more southeast.
This story and the genealogy therein is now thousands of years old. The thought that crosses my mind as I trade my role as producer to voyager is that we may be the only people on the entire planet doing this in today’s world.
The sun just set with a small green flash over our forward starboard beam. With the sun setting, we have calm seas and a steady 10-knot wind. The golden horizon blends from a soft orange to purple to blue as you look up to the heavens.
What started as a mere dream to take our vessels around the world has come to full fruition, thanks in no small part to this sense of aloha, kuleana (responsibility) and sincere belief that the expansive ʻohana waʻa has in the mission of the canoes.
