After a week of meaningful exploration and engagement with conservationists, plentiful wildlife and warm local hospitality, the crew of Hōkūleʻa set sail today for Rapa Nui.
The crew learns about the history of Galapagos, including protecting endangered tortoises, and has the opportunity to participate in a tortoise naming ceremony!
Crewmember ʻAulani Wilhelm narrates Hōkūleʻa's encounters with the strict protocols for entering the Galapagos without bringing invasive pests, plants, diseases or harmful baggage into the islands.
