Our Monday evening update today comes to you from apprentice navigator Jason Patterson who reports 60 miles of headway along their course-line to Rapa Nui. Tonight, with clear skies, they plan to use the planet Venus on their starboard side to navigate onward.

Lehua Kamalu, apprentice navigator aboard Hōkūleʻa, brings us our Monday morning update reporting beautiful weather throughout the night. Now on day 11 of their voyage to Rapa Nui, she reports the navigators made some key adjustments after getting a good latitude fix from a pair of key stars.

Hōkūleʻa Update | February 19, 2017: Noe’s Evening Update

Noe Kamalu is bringing us our evening navigation report today. Now on the tenth day of their voyage from the Galapagos to Rapa Nui, Noe estimates crewmembers have voyaged 57 miles south from their reference point of Espanola Island in the Galapagos, and another 4 mile east.

Aloha, today’s update is brought to you by apprentice navigator Haunani Kane. Now 10 day out of the Galapagos, the crew experienced a shift in winds overnight and had to make some adjustments. Haunani estimates Hōkūlea has traversed 18-19 degrees south.

It was a beautiful day for the Leg 28 crew, with consistent tradewinds, swells and clear skies. Now on their eighth day since leaving the Galapagos Islands for Rapa Nui, Lehua estimates theyʻve covered about 65 miles in the past 12 hours.
