Good morning Hōkūleʻa fans! Noe Kamalu is bringing us our navigation report this morning. She is estimating that in the past 12 hours, the crew has traveled 65 miles south and about three miles west towards the reference course. “If all goes, we hope to see Rapa Nui in just over a week.”

Aloha Hōkūleʻa supporters, this morning’s update comes to us today from apprentice navigator Haunani Kane. She estimates that last night they sailed 63 miles through cloudy weather that necessitated using swell direction as guidance instead of stars.

Apprentice navigator Jason Patterson estimates Hōkūleʻa has sailed 58 miles south and 17 miles east in the past 12 hours… 288 miles total since departing from the Espaniola in the Galapagos Islands.

Leg 28 apprentice navigator Haunani Kane gives us a morning update from the deck of Hōkūleʻa, as the crew sails from the Galapagos Islands to Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island. The crew is monitoring weather and wind, and Haunani estimates their position to be about 7 degrees south.
