Leg 3: Tahiti to Sāmoa
Mahina grew up in Kailua, O'ahu, spending much of her childhood around the voyaging canoes because of her father and long-time crewmember, Billy Richards. It wasn't until recently that she began sailing as part of the crew. To Mahina, Hōkūleʻa stirs awakening and she hopes that the Worldwide Voyage will spread awareness of Hawaiian culture and its people. While at sea, Mahina misses the people she left behind and once on land she misses the magic of sailing.
