Originally from Washington, DC, Tara first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 2011. To her, Hōkūleʻa means the permission to imagine infinite possibility. She would like the Worldwide Voyage to serve as a catalyst for restructuring the education sail plan within Hawaiʻi and beyond so that our schools and our students learn from the past to use in the present and improve our future. She would love this to result in schools being reconnected to our local communities and for community and civic application of knowledge to be valued over standardized test scores.
When out at sea, Tara most craves connection with her family and ice cream. When back on land, she will miss the close relationships she has built with the crew of her leg and getting to see and learn from them everyday.
