Crew Profile: Clyde Aikau

PVS Member Since

HOMETOWN: Kahalui, Maui
PRIMARY DUTY:
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
WORLDWIDE VOYAGE LEGS SAILED: Leg 10 – Auckland to Aurere
Clyde first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 1995. For him, Hōkūleʻa has the ability to perpetuate Hawaiian culture for the Hawaiian people. While sailing, Clyde most misses ice cold water. While back on land, he misses watching the stars and skies at sea and the sense of excitement when seas are rough and he hears the call, "All hands on deck!"

Clyde Aikau was born on October 24, 1949 in Hawaii. The younger brother of legendary pioneering big wave surfer Eddie Aikau, Clyde first started surfing in 1964 under Eddie's expert tutelage at age fifteen in Waikiki and soon established himself as one of the top junior division surfers on Hawaii's North Shore.
