Brad is the Papahānaumokuākea Specialist for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. He first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 2010 and to him, Hōkūleʻa represents an amazing history of ocean explorers in the Pacific. He hopes that through the Worldwide Voyage, we all come to understand the need to mālama our environment. He hopes that Hōkūleʻa crew can bring back stories and lessons learned from other island nations and indigenous cultures to better ourselves for a sustainable future here in Hawai'i.
Brad says that there is no better feeling than being at sea, and although his everyday life and work keeps him near the ocean, he still misses the relaxing feeling of being on the water and the many faces the ocean gives you.
