Leg 3: Tahiti to Sāmoa
Galen first got involved with voyaging on the voyaging canoe Hokualaka'i. He has sailed on Hōkūleʻa with the Aukai 'Imiloa program through the 'Imiloa Astronomy Institute that works with youth teaching astronomy and navigation. To Galen, Hōkūleʻa represents a look back into the past and a glimpse into the future.
While out at sea, Galen misses the the daily routines of his family life. When back at home, Galen misses the the solitude of the ocean and the distance from the occasional craziness of everyday life.
