Heidi began as a volunteer at Hōkūleʻa's dry dock in 2002 and began sailing soon after. She is now the Chief Operations Officer at PVS arranging the logistics of the Worldwide Voyage. To Heidi, Hōkūleʻa represents all that we have to learn from our ancestors and all that we should want to teach to our children. She hopes that the Worldwide Voyage can produce a noticeable shift in people's awareness of our planet and the interconnectedness of all her people. She hopes that by the time Hōkūleʻa has returned from her voyage, this shift has led Hawai'i to be a positive example of protecting our natural and cultural resources deserving of international recognition.
Heidi looks forward to the freedom of focusing on the present while sailing and she is appreciative of all her colleagues and PVS volunteers who making the voyage possible. When back on land, Heidi enjoys being active with friends and family swimming, surfing, hiking, biking, paddling, running and snorkeling.
