Toiora has been on river waka (canoe) since he was 8 years old and in 2012 he sailed on an open ocean voyage on the canoe Haunui to Rapa Nui. He feels honored to be sailing in the wake of Hōkūleʻa to his home land of Aotearoa with the thought in mind that she represents the revitalization of the art of wayfinding.
