Scott first became involved with PVS while working on "Papa Mau", the documentary about Pwo Master Navigator Mau Piailug. He sees Hōkūleʻa as a catalyst for the success of Hawaiian culture and people.
Sailing with the Worldwide Voyage has been Scott's first experience voyaging and he looked forward to many "firsts" at sea. While not sailing, Scott misses the unselfish teamwork and attitude of his crewmembers but consoles himself by spending time with his dog.
