From Waiʻanae, Oʻahu, Alvin first sailed on Hokuleʻa in 2006. To Alvin, Hokuleʻa provides a palatable sense of pride about being Hawaiian that didn't exist before her maiden voyage. He hopes that through the Worldwide Voyage, the message of peace is received and embraced by all those touched by the voyage.
