Leg 11: Aurere to Brisbane
Kai first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 2004, through which he has gained many lifelong friends and connections throughout Hawaiʻi. To him, Hōkūleʻa means hope for the future as she keeps sailing and passing on all that comes with the waʻa (canoe). Kai hopes that the Worldwide Voyage will bring awareness to everyone about how very important our ocean is to our survival and everything else on the planet.
On the waʻa, Kai misses poi to go with all of that fresh fish. While back on land, Kai misses the clear thinking moments you only get steering on a waʻa, and all that fresh fish.
