Growing up in Waimea on Hawai'i Island, Lei'ohu learned to sail on the voyaging canoes Makali'i and Kanehunamoku. Fluent in 'Ōlelo Hawai'i (Hawaiian language), Lei'ohu is proud to represent Hawai'i while sailing abroad. Lei'ohu sailed with fellow crewmembers Tua Pittman and Peia Patai on the Cook Islander vaka (voyaging canoe) Marumaru Atua on the MUA voyage to the IUCN World Parks Congress in November 2014.
