Born in Japan, Julie moved to Hawaiʻi when she was 9 years old. She first sailed with PVS in 2012 as a part of the Asian Pacific Leadership Program at the East West Center and she was inspired to join the Worldwide Voyage (WWV). She would like for the WWV to connect communities throughout the world and shifts our focus to the great stories of amazing people who are working to better our planet. For Julie, Hōkūleʻa holds the key to unlocking the knowledge of our forefathers and their intimate relationship with Mother Earth.
While at sea, Julie craves a nice hot shower of freshwater. Back on land, she misses the simplicity of life on the canoe - of just focusing on the canoe, her crewmembers and the surrounding ocean.
