To Leilani, Hōkūleʻa is a classroom that teaches everything from Mathematics to Linguistics to Social Sciences. She hopes that through the Worldwide Voyage, Hōkūleʻa can build awareness to global issues surrounding religion, economics, society and the environment - not just in Hawaiʻi but around the world!
Leilani first got involved in voyaging in 2006 when she was introduced to ʻOhana Waʻa and she has been a part of this "floating community" ever since. She has had the opportunity to sail on Hōkūleʻa on inter-island trips a number of times and most enjoys sailing with some of the original voyaging crewmembers and hearing their stories of adventure and sacrifice.
