Adam first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 2009. With a background in oceanography and the Navy, Adam sees Hōkūleʻa as an avenue for understanding the Earth to navigate around it. He hopes that the Worldwide Voyage will increase awareness of oceanic environmental issues. For Adam, Hōkūleʻa is not just a canoe that has done great things, but a canoe that has helped people do great things and draws people to it, which is something worth protecting.
