Anuschka grew up in Basel, Switzerland and Livorno, Italy and moved to Honolulu in 2000. She first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 2012 and became actively involved in ocean education with PVS and Kahi Kai in addition to working at the University of Hawaiʻi. To Anuschka, Hōkūleʻa is a symbol of the realization of the possibilities of people collaborating and believing in something bigger than themselves. She hopes that the Worldwide Voyage will raise awareness about the environment as well as interest more Pacific Islanders and indigenous youth in environmental science so they can become stewards of their own islands and oceans.
While out at sea, Anuschka misses her cats but she loves the view of the ocean and camaraderie amongst her crew. While back on land she tries to not forget to appreciate our beautiful planet and live in the now.
