To Darryll, Hōkūleʻa means many things including the work and the spirit of so many people who have helped to build her and believe in what she can do for Hawai'i and the world. He hopes that through the Worldwide Voyage, the love and spirit of all these people can be spread across the world to build friendships and bridge countries together under a common vision at such a critical time for Island Earth.
Being out at sea is a welcome change from everyday life for Darryll and he craves very little. While back on land, he misses most the friendships and bonds that are created at sea with other crewmembers who share a common vision as well as the natural elements - the wind, the stars and the sun.
