Ekolu first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 1976, when he was just 10 years old. To Ekolu, Hōkūleʻa represents the beginning of the cultural revolution, bringing awareness and pride back to the Hawaiian community. Through the Worldwide Voyage, he would like to see an increased awareness for all the things that PVS through education and outreach and the effect it has on our resources and our community.
While sailing, Ekolu misses a familiar touch, hug or smile from the people he loves. When back on land, he will miss nature and all its elements.
