Haunani is a graduate student in Geology and Geophysics at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. On the canoe, she serves as an Assistant Navigator and Science Coordinator. While at sea, she looks forward to continuing her navigational training under more experienced navigators as well as getting lost and being challenged and working together with her crew to find themselves again. She studies hard before going out to sea and she hopes that on the canoe she can recall all of the information she has learned.
At sea, she misses her young nephew and looks forward to spending time with him when she returns - as well as surfing with her mom and girlfriends in Waikiki.
