Kaleiʻōpio first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 2010 on an inter-island sail. For her, Hōkūleʻa is a symbol of the Hawaiian people and their perseverance to succeed. Through the Worldwide Voyage, Kaleiʻōpio hopes that pieces of Hawaiian culture like aloha and mālama resonate throughout the world.
While at sea, Kaleiʻōpio misses her family and fresh food. Back on land, she misses the saltiness of the ocean.
