Zach is a Diving Safety Officer at The Nature Conservancy. Zach's first experience sailing with PVS was in Summer of 2015 sailing to Papahānaumokuākea. To him, Hōkūleʻa resprents a connection between the past and the present and when he sees any of the traditional voyaging canoes he is inspired and humbled. He sees the incredible amount of hard work and passion that has supported the canoes and he feels such a privilege to be a part of it.
When out at sea, Zach misses his family and friends but the ocean is a huge part of who he is and he feels like he is drying out when he spends too much time on shore. He feels incredibly humbled to be surrounded by a power that is so much greater than himself.
