Richard first sailed on Hōkūleʻa in 2003 from Makaha to Sand Island. For Richard, Hōkūleʻa is a continuation of a long Polynesian sailing tradition demonstrating what was and what is possible in the future. He hopes that through the Worldwide Voyage, Hōkūleʻa will bring awareness to the conditions of our oceans and the Earth to hopefully make a difference in that condition.
